FACTS

Use data to support CRA outreach and lending programs

Our credit triggers usually see a 50% or greater lift in prospect or customer universe over single-bureau providers.

Traditional marketing programs don’t usually address the historical biases that have existed in lending for decades.

Our Community Banking Outreach programs utilize a variety of data partners to help you find and target underserved, low-to-moderate-income customers in your community.

Data types include:

  • Consumer Data Insights

Our consumer data lake includes demographic, geographic, homeowner, deed and purchase behavior on more than 100 million households and 260 million consumers throughout the United States.

  • Prescreen Data

Our tri-bureau prescreen data provides coverage that can help you identify prospects who fit your specific lending criteria.

  • Credit Triggers

Our tri-bureau credit trigger program monitors your customers and prospects daily to identify active lending shoppers (refi, purchase, home equity, etc.) who meet your pre-established lending criteria.

HOW IT WORKS

How to successfully connect with low to moderate-income consumers

1

It starts with understanding the opportunity

To develop a successful CRA lending program, we start by creating a custom marketing opportunity analysis to help you better understand your financial position in your local market. This gives you an accurate measure of the number of credit-qualified customers and prospects you are leaving on the table.

2

Next, build awareness

If consumers don’t think they can get credit in the first place, then your traditional marketing is going to fail. Deluxe can help you position popular products in a way that resonates to all types of consumers, including low-to-moderate-income households. We also offer expertise on products like equity loans, refinances (both rate & term and cash-out) and purchases (both first-time buyer and re-purchase).

3

Finish with an outreach program

Finally, you can begin using a smarter, targeted outreach program to match your unique products and services with the individual households in your marketplace.

CRA frequently asked questions

What loans are CRA-eligible?

There are quite a few loans that are CRA eligible, including mortgages, personal loans, small business and small farm loans.

What is the lending test for CRA?

From FDIC Website:

“The number and amount of loans in the institution’s assessment area”

  • The geographic distribution of loans, including to LMI areas
  • Record of lending/lending-related activity to: borrowers of different income levels; and/or businesses and farms of different sizes
  • Community development loans to number and amount of complexity and innovativeness
  • Innovative or flexible lending practices to address the needs of LMI individuals or geographies consistent with safe and sound banking

What are CRA requirements for banks?

This is a big question and depends on a lot of things, such as the location of the FI, the branch sizes, needs of the community (farms, personal loans, etc….) and the FI strategy to meet those needs. This PDF breaks down some of the info and we can go through and decide how much we need to include. Our elevator pitch would be “Deluxe can help identify the needs of your community and analyze the opportunities to serve them.”

How can an outreach program improve the bank’s CRA rating?

Outreach helps to identify and educate the otherwise underbanked neighbors and seeks to establish a relationship that helps set our LMI neighbors on the path of long-term financial security.
