What is Item Processing in banking?

In the Deluxe Item Processing and Case Management products, item processing means applying decisions on transactions in the Incoming & Exceptions items. 

In banking, an exception item describes a transaction that is unable to be fully processed. This may be due to missing or inaccurate information, insufficient funds or an incomplete check. Automating receivables tasks, like exception item processing, make them far quicker to resolve than manual processes.

What is the difference between ACH returns and ACH reversals?

ACH returns are failed transactions generated by receiving financial institutions. These can occur when trying to post to an account that does not exist, if account numbers are typed incorrectly or if the account has insufficient funds. ACH reversals are a request to undo or “reverse” a completed transaction. Originating financial institutions generate ACH reversals.

How long do payment exceptions take to resolve?
